Our Everyday Influential Leaders
To all the unsung leaders in schools and homes
I listened to John Maxwell speak at the Global Leadership Summit in Dubai. John is a leadership expert who has trained six million leaders in businesses around the world. He talked about the power of leaders to influence, and that this influence has a focus of adding value. He mentioned people to whom the term leader is anathema – their experience of leaders being those who look to add value to themselves at the expense of adding value to the people they lead.
So, who are the unsung influential leaders in our world? These are the mums at home and the teachers in schools who day after day strive to add value to the young people in their lives. They do five things:
- They believe that there is value in their charge
- They plan how they might add value
- They look out for young people to add value to
- They go into action, adding the value
- They encourage the young people to add value to each other
Mums and teachers – the World’s most influential leaders, intentionally adding value to young people’s lives every day. The value that you add is no accidental achievement; it is deliberate, intentional living that requires humility, creativity, empathy, discipline and a servant heart.
Thank you, Mums and teachers, for this incredibly rich contribution.
